Here are some troubleshooting steps for various scenarios when your Volcora Windows-based POS terminal doesn't power on or display anything. These cover multiple common issues including power supply, screen/display, and hardware faults:
1. Power Adapter Issues
Symptoms: No lights, no fan sound, screen is black.
Steps:
Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the terminal and the outlet.
Test the power outlet with another device to verify it's working.
Check for any visible damage on the adapter or cable (fraying, bent pins, etc).
If available, test with a known working adapter with the same voltage/amperage.
2. Power Button Lit but Screen Is Black
Symptoms: Power LED is on, but screen remains blank.
Steps:
External Display Test: Connect an external monitor via HDMI/VGA (if possible) to check if the issue is with the display.
Brightness Check: Ensure the screen brightness isn't turned all the way down.
Force Reboot:
Hold the power button for 10–15 seconds until the terminal shuts off.
Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
Reset RAM or SSD: Reseat or remove/reinsert the memory and SSD to rule out loose hardware. See instructions on how to reseat/change RAM: https://help.volcora.com/support/solutions/articles/73000637650-pos-changing-ram-storage-pos-standard-base-model-only-
3. Power Button Not Lit / No Signs of Power
Symptoms: Nothing happens when power button is pressed.
Steps:
Check Power Source: Try a different outlet or surge protector.
Power Button Hold: Press and hold the power button for 10–15 seconds in case the unit is in a "sleep" or low-power state.
Inspect for Loose Components: If comfortable opening the unit, check internal cable connections (motherboard, power board).
Replace Power Adapter: If adapter is suspected, try another compatible one.
4. Unit Turns On Then Shuts Down or Restarts
Symptoms: Boot loop, or shuts down after logo appears.
Steps:
Check for external devices (USB drives, barcode scanners, etc). Disconnect all and try booting again.
Attempt safe mode boot (F8 or Shift+F8 during boot—though not always accessible on newer systems).
Check for overheating (dust buildup, fan not spinning).
If boot logo appears, try entering BIOS (usually Del, F2, or Esc) to check if SSD is detected.
Other Tips
CMOS Reset (advanced): Remove the CMOS battery for 30 seconds and reinsert to reset BIOS settings.
Hard Drive Status: If the SSD has failed, the unit might power on but not boot.
Beep Codes: Some POS terminals emit beeps during POST (power-on self-test). Note the pattern and inform in your support inquiry.
