Troubleshooting: Screen Goes Black After Startup

Symptom
The unit powers on and shows the Volcora logo, but after boot the screen remains black. You may hear system sounds or be able to move/click the mouse, but the desktop is not visible.

This indicates Windows is running normally but the display is not being rendered correctly.

Step 1: Launch the Windows Desktop Manually

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager

  2. Click File → Run new task

  3. Type:

    explorer.exe
  4. Check “Create this task with administrative privileges”

  5. Click OK

✔ If the desktop appears, continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Reset the Display Output

  1. Press:

    Win + Ctrl + Shift + B

(You may hear a beep — this resets the graphics driver)

  2. Then press:

    Win + P
  3. Press the Down Arrow key once, then press Enter

  4. Repeat Down Arrow + Enter once more

This forces the system to display on the built-in screen.

Step 3: Check the Graphics Driver Status

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc

  2. Click File → Run new task

  3. Type:

    devmgmt.msc
  4. Expand Display adapters

  • If you see Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, the correct graphics driver is not installed

  • If you see Intel UHD Graphics, the driver is present (may still require reinstall)

Step 4: Install / Reinstall the Intel Graphics Driver

  1. Connect the unit to the internet

  2. Install the Intel Graphics Driver (DCH) for the CPU

  3. Restart the system after installation completes

⚠️ Please do not install legacy Intel drivers or drivers intended for older i5/i7 processors.

Step 5: External Monitor Check (If Needed)

If the screen is still black:

  1. Connect an external monitor using HDMI

  2. Restart the unit

  • If the external monitor displays correctly, the issue is display configuration and can be resolved via driver or system update

  • This does not indicate a screen hardware failure

Important Notes

  • This issue is software-related and does not indicate a defective screen or hardware failure

  • The system is booting normally and responding to input

  • In most cases, installing the correct graphics driver fully resolves the issue

If the issue persists after completing these steps, please contact Volcora Support with:

  • CPU

  • Windows version

  • Whether an external monitor displays correctly

  • Serial Number

Our team will assist with the next steps.
